Genius

We talked about the google image search game a while ago. Here is a presentation by Luis von Ahn, the ridiculously smart guy who came up with the idea. The overal theme is using games to seduce people into solving computational problems with their wetware (that's 'brains' for non-nerds). I'm amazed by how entertaining he can be while at the same time laying out some seriously brilliant shit. Check it out: Human Computation

I enjoyed this a lot - along with playing the game, too (I hadn't before)

However, I can't believe he opened with "Can you hear me now?" It detracted from how seriously I could take him for the rest of the video.

HA! That's so funny Drew - what are you talking about? I want to know more!

I remember EPN was nuts about image labeller a while ago - I saw another talk by this guy, shorter but the same stuff on YouTube (this one's MUCH better though.) Are we nerds or what?

I like his terms - he is very precise. But he doesn't care much for the questions. I think some of the projects I've been doing, like Perceival, are somehow related to this, but he is much more precise. Still, art isn't design or engineering and I like to do things that are less... useful! I'd love to hear what you've been doing artistically recently G-reg! Don't be afeared of posting! I'd like to know if they are related to the idea of human computation or what?

I'm off to Berkeley (next week) - and I'm hoping to follow-up with some of these ideas. I like being a 21st c. artist because I don't get so freaked out about being "original." If I see something cool, I copy it! I think this can be done with style - not just copycat trash.

I was thinking about how this guy Luis von Ahn must be going on hot dates every night - he seems like a real chick magnet. Seriously!
