Or perhaps it is a design environment that further alienates people from physical, tactile experimentation, that makes engineers less aware of real-world complexities and the subtle affordances of different materials, that perpetuates the illusion that we live in a world of pool-ball Newtonian physics where everything is predictable and mechanistic.
I mean, I'd love to play with this toy. But the urge to make it useful pisses me off.
I think that as design tools further try to approximate multisensory interactive experiences in the real world they enter the so-called "uncanny valley" between simulation and reality in the same way avatars do. For avatars this creates a really creepy feeling, in design I think it is just going to create problems.
i think i agree....i was just reading an article that was talking about how dvd remotes proved how out of touch engineers are with people. like the reason there is so much shit on the dvd remote is because engineers are the people who use shit like that, so they put it on thinking that we are going to be interested in it. i have no idea. i think the article was about how bringing in ametuers really imporves your product because you are forced to re-explain and re-think from the beginning.
i think this would be really fun to play with for kids...watching it really reminded me of learing simple machines and playing with logowriter...you know what im talking about. i mean....i am sure they are using better programs now....that was a lot of work for a little payoff....i think it would be cool to have kids start learnging computers that dont use the mouse and keyboard interfaces....that way when they grow up they could design cooler, more intuitive interfaces...and i would get to have more fun.
When you create a new post the "link" blank makes the TITLE a link.
It's a little confusing. Here's how to
create an HTML link like a pro. Copy and paste this crap into your
post/comments:
<a href="http://www.address.com">TEXT </a>
Replace the complete URL (web address) between the quotes and TEXT with what you want to appear as text in the blue link.
Congratulations...you're a nerd.
