ok, so how do people feel about the idea of errm...well, something like EPN-sponsored 'assignments'. i think we'd all like to see more art around here (at least farley said that henry did, and henry speaks for us all, even when he's not speaking). so many great artists here seem to just post once or twice and then vanish forever. so we should encourage more participation.
what if, along the lines of farley's notebook challenge, people issued topics, questions, ideas, etc, for people to respond to in art-form? these things could be general/abstract - ie: "WIZARDS', or deal w/ more specific concrete issues like "make a piece uitlizing appropriation". maybe we could even do it like, the first person to successfully respond a challenge gets to issue the next challenge, to keep a high turnover rate and quick generation of ideas and make it more of a game? or maybe thats an unfun idea, maybe we just organize some kind of rotation system or something...or just people do it when they feel inspired or wahtever...
great idea? dumb idea? fun idea? dumb idea? or something?

Obviously I think that is a good idea. I'm well into interaction and games. Tho it can be iffy. Like I was trying to say in my last post; motherfuckers won't give a dog a bone.
I think the problem with the notebook challenge is that it is not immediate. I mean, the post is not really the creative act, it is only documentation. Plus not everyone has notebooks. Or a scanner/digital-camera.
So any "activity" should be both technically unchallenging and "live." And I'm not that into a "first one up" competition both because TCD will win every time and because this doesn't seem like that kind of environment. But I don't have a clear idea of what would be right...
TCD -I think this would be an interesting extension of the reactionary ideas you were spouting earlier about slowing down the rate of change in art, and enforcing rules to create new forms or genres. I think that is one interesting thing about YouTube, how several new forms have quickly emerged - the "cute girl talking about her fucking boring life" i.e. lonelygirl, the "cute cute cute video" i.e. baby panda, etc etc. But these were just spontaneously emergent genres. Inventing a genre is still a big brain buster. Anyway, if you invented a new form, codified the rules, and placed it in a context in which people naturally compete so there is a natural improvement in content, perhaps you, the codifier, would be more legitimately the artist/creator than the people who provide the actual content/product.
BTW
Henry is in Pitttsburg checking out the scene.
I think it would be cool if there were something like an EPN membership drive - send an email to every "member" and try to get them to: A. post something and B. Find at least one new member.
What do people feel about that?
its spelled "pittsburgh"....but its ok f...lots of people forget the "h"....obviously not me. and as for assignments...i am feeling it...i think i have talked to a few of you about this idea...actually TCD...i think i talked to you about it last time i was in NY...but it was "really late at night." one thing i was interested in was taking some of the topics that spawn giant discussions and seeing how people have taken that discussion and made something out of it...i think the most successful posts are the ones where people just kind of discuss ideas...but they all relate to something practical about art...so i was thinking that we could see how the theoretic translates to tha practical in peoples work...like once a month or something you select a longer discussion from the month and make something using the ideas discussed...because i think people bring up these ideas because they are curious about using them in they own work...but its unfortunate that we never get to see what became of the discussion...anyway...i like the idea...i think i would put TCD in charge of "games" if thats how we are going to do it.
okey dokey stuff
i like your thoughts on codifier-as-artist, eff.
cool
well let's do this
i don't know if i want to be 'in charge' of anything, but i don't mind being like, a moderator of sorts. how often do people want these these "challenges" to be issued? once a month? once every two weeks? what kind of rotation-system should be worked out, as far as issuing challenges? should people just like, volunteer?
how many people on this board think they would actually be willing contribute to something?
oh, and i think a membership drive of some sort is a great idea, eff.
