It should say civilized humans, not just man. That is a horrible misconception. "Man" was sustainable for 250,000 years, and there are some that are still living sustainably today.
I still think that "civilized" is a positive term - although I don't think we should argue semantics here... It's just - people have different ideas of civilized. I think that huge gas-guzzling truck-cars are completely barbaric, but people buy them precisely because they perceive them as civilized. I think eating cruel meat is uncivilized, though I do it anyway. I see graffiti as civilized.
