I was recently tapped on the shoulder to write a review for the new Black Lips live record (in stores today) for an online music "mag". I did, and it was rejected. No biggie... Next I was invited to contribute to the MP3 blog portion of that vary same online music "mag". Starting yesterday, I thought it appropriate / clever to write about Presidents of the United States of America, the band, and the preoccupation with animals and vaginas on their landmark debut album. It too was rejected.
Enter the Extended Pizza Network... Below are links to the respective rejects. I'm not interested in feedback so much as I'd like to give these undeveloped turds a chance at temporary cyber life / pubication (that's pubic + publication ). Enjoy.

Ha! I still can't figure out WHY you wanted to touch upon PUSA'a legacy, but whateverrr. What'd they say when they shut these down?
yo...you posted on EPN so you are going to get feedback...im going to feed the fuck back...ro whatever...i liked yr reviews...i always like yr reviews...i mean they really have a sense of experience...but i dont know if that is a problem..see its not a problem for me because i know you and when you write about things i can see you and the situation makes sense..but i think sometimes i read other peoples reviews and get pissed at them...so i dont know what going on...but i wonder if you piss people off the way other people piss me off..i mean...dont think to hard about it..because i like yr reviews...because you know what you are taliing about..but most of the people who read reviews...maybe they dont know what they are reading about...but its a real person look at music and maybe people cant accept that because they read reviews to validate thier own interests..so if you are more in the know than they are they get a bit grumpy about it...am i wrong? because actually i have no idea...anyway...i think keep doing what you are doing and pretty soon every body will know you as that asshole who made a drunken scene at the show they were at...and then they will want to read yr reviews...but my only real suggestion is that maybe putting the lyrics to 112s "peaches and cream" next to the POTUSA lyrics might make some real sense...but that might just be tha streets talking.
more unrequested feedback:
haha, i just got around to reading both of these, and they are great!
i especially love the PUSA write up. if there's any band from that era that deserves some critical reappraisal, well, they pretty much top the list - maybe the best/weirdest 'alterna-rock' band there was??? so tremendously bad and totally weird - but there was something incredibly appealing there. i agree with henry - you definitely could have pushed it further! there's easily a 5000 word article to be written on this catastrophically bizarre band! after reading your piece, i might even dare to say they touch upon devo-esque levels of icky-icky sexual phobia-cum-fascination, torn between the creepy glee of a 12 year old masturbating for the first time and the panic of a 6 year old who thinks hugging girls is total gross-out city. i think the thinly-veiled beastiality references can safely be read metaphorically - the band approaches ALL sex as if it were with a monstrous beast (or maybe a mechanical component in a factory assembly line, as in peaches). and the lines about the 'little froggy's booty' i would actually read as pro-necrophilia, if anything! fucking hell, i need to download that album now!!
on the whole, tho, these are maybe not appropriate "internet magazine" material. especially the black lips review, which blindly, slavishly lavishes praise upon the band...it doesn't help i don't *get* their thing, personally, but you shouldn't assume your audience does, either...and while your enthusiasm is palpable, enthusiasm alone doesn't make a good *article* (especially for the purposes of a shitty magazine)...
but whatevs, you're an awesome writer, tim, and there's definitely an audience for your style of writing. if i had my way, these pieces would surely be in print...but yeah, keep up the good work, for sure!
