Ok, Doc's last post gave me an idea. The best thing to do would be to start this idea off right now, but I can't think of the theme so I'll just present it and maybe someone else can fill in the blanks for now:
We may have done something similar, but the idea is, someone posts a question, titled "CALL FOR RESPONSE (VISUAL)", but the questions is purely visual. It's a drawing, or a picture (no movies, because I think that's too exclusive of people with dialup). The response comments have to be completely visual -- no text allowed. I'm pretty sure everyone follows how this would work, but if it's confusing I can explain more.
I have a brain blockage that will hopefully clear by this afternoon, so if anyone wants to create the post first, go for it. Ok, cool.

Well, I like this idea, but I don't know about specifics.
As I've said earlier, I think that rules and limitations can enable creativity. I think that forbidding text is an interesting option - I had to do it to myself for a few years. But I also think that recently there has been this idea up on the EPN that text is always bad, always superfluous. And I'm not down with that at all.
Anyway - let's talk specs. about this project.
hey...i really like this idea....and i dont think text is bad...i think its good....but i do like limiting comments on this particular post to works with no explanation....however...i do think it leaves out people who deal mainly with text...or people who deal mainly in music...and i understand about limitations for those with dial-up....because i have dial up..and i dont think anyone else does...so i do miss a lot of content...like music and movies...but i think we should include them...although maybe as a last resort.
I tried to start it above... did I miss the point?
text shouldn't be banned, the majority of the work I do is writing, so of course I'd like to share and respond in that form, but the "personal" text that somehow tries to make the image/object/sound thing more real or better is discouraging in that not all of us can or want to write about our non-text media, and the dominating format has been to do so...
this sounds sort of like a game i used to play often, called 'image scavenger hunt'. one person issues a challenge - for instance "find an octopus in a top hat". then everyone tries to find that image (or the closest thing to it available). the first person to succeed gets to issue the next challenge (generally, people are not allowed to answer two challenges in a row).
I think doc's post above is the right idea. Total cool dude has it -- it's like a scavenger hunt. We can do this for text to, but that would be called "Call For Response (TEXT)".. or (MOVIE)...etc.
And, this can be work that people have done themselves OR just google image search, OR scanned from a book, still from a movie, etc,etc... Basically, the goal is to respond to the posted picture with another picture.
This is actually a lot like that game Apples to Apples (which is great by the way). I mean, the response can be silly or thought out, or whatever. I think I was mainly saying that the comments area shouldn't explain the post, which makes the graphic have to sort of explain itself.
I like the idea of doing this for text as well, but keeping them separated by mediums.
And these rules are only for this particular Call For [blank], they're by no mean suggestions for the rest of the site or other Call For [blank] contests.
TCD - I thought that was called "Immolated Pinata." Goddamn ~.
What's Apples to Apples G-reg?
How about "I want some soup?"
Apples to Apples
Wow - I read all about it on the site.
I am amazed at the profusion of games that operate in ways analogous to not only the fluxist's notions of art production, but also Burroughs/P-Orridge's ideas of divination through chance and magick, but that are presented in this wholesome all-american way. Perhaps the extreme xtians have it right - the antichrist already walks among us...
G-reg just informed me that I was breaking the rules of some imaginary game, correctly...
I'd written this, and I'm going to copy it here:::
"
I've said this before a couple of times - the EPN has too many gentlemen. We can't go around asking the ladies to join just because they are ladies, because that's just as wrongheaded as excluding them. But we could make a few changes. For example, if there were more pictures of really buff dudes? And if there were chocolate? The other alternative that doc seems to be exploring is that half of us could just become ladies ourselves. We will have to do a cost-benefit analysis.
"
etc....
I feel like the guy... who doesn't know what's going on.
Anyway...
It would pretty funny to do some market-type research, where we change the background of the page for a week from black to buff guys with chocolates and see if more girls show up. lol. (er, I hope people know that I'm joking)
Seriously though, there have been some girls posting -- India posted two websites in the aggressive content drive for instance, and she is definitely very much a girl. Also, Sascha has posted a bunch too. And Marissa posted something a little while ago.
EFF, I think this is your ball now, since you've brought it up. Let's see a new post that is as gender-unspecific as you can make it!
